Derwent Class Yachts

Derwent Class yachts, unique in design and local heritage, have recently enjoyed a surge in restoration and interest, with every other boat yard in southern Tasmania currently in the midst of restoring one (most notably the Wooden Boat Centre in Franklin, having restored at least 2 at this point, with more in the works). Their "World Championships," held at each AWBF, highlight their historical charm and the competitive spirit of modern sailors, celebrating a seamless blend of tradition and contemporary sailing excellence.

Derwent Storms and Hobart Outrigger Canoe Club

Derwent Storms is a local and vibrant dragon boat club regularly paddling on the picturesque Derwent River. They regularly compete in national events and always welcoming new members from beginners to sports paddlers. The Hobart Outrigger Canoe Club one of two clubs in Tasmania providing a sport to all ages from social paddles to international racing. This sport originates from the development and spread of the coastal cultures of the Pacific Rim region about 30,000 years ago. Canoes played an integral role in the survival and migration of these ancient cultures. Together they will demonstrate a short paddle together which can be viewed from the water on LaDrone or Kings Pier Marina Seawall.
