This package is set to give you a glimpse into life in the Huon Valley throughout it's rich history, the evolution of it's produce industry, it's people and the fantastic wooden boats that inhabit the waterways of the Huon Valley. 


As a perfect self drive package to experience the Huon River and historic township of Franklin all of these amazing local experiences have got together in collaboration to bring you this package. You will not only have your whole day planned but you will get a 10% discount overall on entry tickets and vouchers.


Make sure you arrive for a tour of the Wooden Boat Centre at Franklin for a 10am start where you will experience a full tour of this one of a kind workshop and the only wooden boat school in Australia. Immerse yourself in the workshop environment and get a glimpse of what it's like to build these amazing watercraft, all while enjoying the beautiful aroma of Huon Pine shavings as the students build a traditional style clinker dinghy, as well as their contemporary counterparts.


From there you will stroll across the road to Franks Ciderhouse and Café for lunch where you will have the first $25 per person covered(infants not included) for a meal or cider tasting simply show the staff your confirmation email. Frank’s Cider is a multi-award winning clear sparkling cider range made with quality 100% Tasmanian apples, pears, cherries and raspberries. The Clark Family have been growing apples and pears at Franklin since 1836 and the cider’s namesake, Frank Clark was the 3rd generation orchardist who planted many of the trees still harvested for cider by today’s 5th and 6th generations. Naomie-Clark Port and her husband Tony Port are current custodians of the Woodside Family orchard and were the founders of Franks Cider Company in 2012. In 2014 they opened the doors to Franks Ciderhouse and Café where you can taste and purchase the ciders and learn about the history of apple growing in Franklin and the Huon Valley.


Fri - Sun at 1:15pm After your delicious lunch, make your way to Heriots Point Vineyard (1:45pm for the cruise Mon-Thurs), which nestles on the banks of the Huon River and specialises in cellar aged premium Pinot, Sparkling and Huon white wines. A rustic and intimate Boat Shed cellar door is the perfect setting to enjoy a select vintage tasting while overlooking the picturesque vineyard gardens and the Huon River. Wine tastings Friday to Sunday for all bookings are $10/head, payable on the day at the cellar door. For bookings Monday to Thursday no tastings are available. However, you will be able to purchase Heriots Point wines to be consumed on board your cruise or during lunch at Franks and 10% is being offered off the cellar door purchase prices for bottled wines and will be available post cruise from the boatshed cellar door upon request. At around 1:45pm, simply stroll down to the private dock, located just down to the waters edge from the boat shed where you will step aboard the luxurious, historic, 1948 Tasmanian Motor Cruiser, LaDrone as part of a relaxing afternoon cruise. The cruise will take you up the beautiful Huon River towards the Historic township of Franklin exploring the history of the area as you go and enjoying a local Huon Valley produced tasting board (purchased as an optional extra) and of course some of the locally produced alcoholic drinks such as Heriots Point Wine, Beer and Franks Cider are available for purchase on the boat.


You will arrive back at the dock at 3:30pm having concluded your package experience and free to explore further what this stunning part of Tasmania has on offer.

The Wooden Boat Centre and Franks are located at the Northern end(or start) or Franklin township.


Wine tasting and the departure for the cruise are located on Heriots Point Vineyard(Google Maps, Huon River Cruises, for the easiest way to find us)


The Carpark at Heriots Point is a short walk from the boatshed and jetty for the cruise, however if you think it may be a challenge for you, please contact us and we will arrange a closer park for you. PLEASE DO NOT WALK THROUGH THE VINES DUE TO CURRENT BIOSECURITY THREATS TO VINEYARDS.
